The world of 3D design thrives on creativity, but managing a growing collection of 3D assets can quickly descend into disorganization. Textures, models, animations – without a proper organizational structure, finding the perfect piece becomes a time-consuming quest. This is where echo3D's asset hierarchy system steps in, acting as your guide to a well-structured and accessible 3D asset library.

Imagine a vast library without a system like the Dewey Decimal System. Finding a specific book would be a frustrating endeavor. Similarly, a disorganized collection of 3D assets can hinder your workflow and creativity. A well-defined asset hierarchy establishes a logical structure, categorizing your assets in a way that makes sense for you and your team. This allows for:

  • Effortless Navigation: Locate the assets you need quickly and efficiently, saving valuable time spent searching.
  • Enhanced Collaboration: A clear and consistent organization system fosters better teamwork, ensuring everyone understands where assets are located within the project.
  • Reduced Redundancy: Identify and eliminate duplicate assets, freeing up valuable storage space and preventing clutter.

echo3D empowers you to create a custom asset hierarchy that perfectly aligns with your project needs. Here's a breakdown of the system:

  • Flexible Organization: Break down your assets into categories and subcategories using folders. Think broad categories like 'environments,' 'characters,' and 'props,' and then subdivide them further based on specific details. For instance, within 'environments,' you could have folders for 'forests,' 'cities,' and 'interiors.'
  • Intuitive Interface: echo3D's user-friendly interface allows for effortless navigation of your asset hierarchy. Drag and drop assets to rearrange them as needed, ensuring frequently used items are readily accessible.

Now that you understand the importance of hierarchy, let's explore how to manage it within echo3D:

  • Step 1 - Log into the echo3D platform: The first step to accessing the Entry Hierarchy Editor is to log into your echo3D account. Once logged in, navigate to the content view where your assets are listed.
  • Step 2 - Open the asset inspection dialog: Click on an asset tile to open the asset inspection dialog. This dialog provides detailed information about the selected asset, including its metadata, file size, and more.
  • Step 3 - Select the Entry Hierarchy view: Within the asset inspection dialog, navigate to the Entry Hierarchy view. This view displays the hierarchical relationships associated with the selected asset, allowing you to view its parent and child assets.

  • Step 2 - Click the X button: In the top right corner of the parent or child entry that you wish to remove, click the X button. This will prompt a confirmation dialog to ensure you want to remove the relationship.
  • Step 3 - Confirm the removal: Confirm the removal of the relationship by clicking 'Yes' on the confirmation dialog. The relationship will be removed from the Entry Hierarchy tab of the asset.
